School Food Standards
At Elmley Dray School, we are committed to ensuring we follow the school food standards as well as ensuring the highest levels of hygiene. All staff complete appropriate food hygiene and allergy awareness training as part of our ongoing CPD programme for staff.
The school does not operate a canteen or routinely provide meals to students and pupils are required to bring their own packed lunch to school to cater for their own dietary requirements. Food may be prepared and cooked as part of Food Technology lessons and Independent Skills sessions. Where students are preparing food in the morning, a range of healthier options are available, including low-sugar cereals, wholemeal bread and fresh fruit and low-sugar jam is provided for students who choose to have jam. Fresh fruit is always available throughout the school day for all pupils.
Food purchased for Independent Skills and Food Technology sessions is clearly labelled and stored appropriately. A food hygiene logbook is maintained, recording cleaning routines and essential safety checks, including fridge and freezer temperatures. A food temperature probe is used to check cooked and reheated food to ensure it is prepared safely. All surfaces, equipment and utensils are thoroughly cleaned and sanitised after each use.
Our food hygiene policy can be found here.
We are pleased to have received the highest food hygiene rating of 5 stars in November 2025, reflecting our commitment to maintaining high standards of food safety, hygiene and cleanliness.
