We welcome students to Elmley Dray School who have

  1.      A diagnosis of ASC
  2.      Have evidence of Autistic Traits
  3.      Are recognised as having an Anxiety Disorder
  4.      Sensory issues which means they need a specialist environment
  5.      FASD
  6.      SEMH only when in conjunction with an Autism diagnosis or evidence of Autistic Traits
  7.      An Educational, Health and Care Plan
  8.      Working within three years of their current year group due to a lack of school attendance

If you can answer yes to any of these, please contact us and we can provide you with a tour of the school. Following this, taster days will be offered if required, with a specialist tutor who will make a recommendation on whether your child will benefit from a place at our school.

Introduction booklet

Students who have not been able to attend school for some time due to Anxiety or Sensory issues, will be considered for a placement and be provided with a personalised transition plan. If students are finding visiting the school difficult then we will come and do a home visit to support the family.

All taster days and visits are provided free to parents and carers. Taster days are two days, and home visits are up to 90 minutes to establish the needs of the learner.

Students with a diagnosis of SEMH in conjunction with Autism will be considered in special cases, and it will depend on whether successful taster days have been achieved. The school reserves the right to extend taster days for these learners in order to establish if the school has the right resources to meet the needs of the learner.

Taster Days

These will most likely be two consecutive days and transport to and from the school will be the responsibility of the parent. A welcome pack will need to be signed by the parent for the taster days and in order that we have all the information available to support the learner we will require an up to date copy of any recent reports and the EHC Plan.

Medication required by the student will need to be discussed with the school prior to starting on taster days. Taking medication during the school day does not affect the decision making about a potential placement. We would request that parents refer to our Administration of Medicines Policy.

Making referrals to the School

When you have an EHC Plan, Elmley Dray School needs to be consulted with by the local authority for possible admission to the school to proceed. Parents who would like to fund the school placement as they go through the process of obtaining an EHC Plan will need to contact the school to discuss the needs of the learner.

School Uniform

Students do not wear a school uniform at Elmley Dray School. We believe that students need to feel comfortable within the school environment in order to be able to engage and learn.

Safeguarding and Wellbeing

Students on taster days will be open to the same procedures for Safeguarding and Wellbeing and we draw your attention to these policies on our website. The Behaviour Policy and Anti-Bullying Policy is also available for parent consideration.
