Prevent Statement

On 1 July 2015, the Prevent Duty (section 26) of The Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015 came into effect. This duty requires local authorities and schools to actively consider the need to prevent individuals from being drawn into terrorism.

Elmley Dray School is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all its students. We understand that protecting children from radicalisation is just as crucial as protecting them from other forms of harm.

All staff members are expected to uphold and promote the core principles of British values, including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect, and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. We believe it is essential for children to have opportunities to explore diversity and learn about Britain as a multicultural society, where everyone is treated with respect regardless of race, gender, sexuality, religion, special needs, or disability. As part of our commitment to safeguarding and child protection, we fully support the Government's Prevent Strategy.

All of our staff have received PREVENT training and are fully aware of the procedures in place at the school. Additionally, one of our staff members has completed the online CHANNEL training. Members of our Senior Leadership Team (SLT) also attend any available Prevent updates or briefings and adjust our procedures in accordance with the latest guidance.

If you are concerned that someone you know is expressing extreme views, hatred, or may be vulnerable to exploitation by extremists, we are here to offer support and advice. Alternatively, you can visit: https://actearly.uk/ for further information.
